Artists need places generous to them and from the first time he visited FMM, in 2000, David Murray, one of the most productive imaginations of contemporary jazz, felt that he had found in Sines a place like that. He bought a house in the historic centre and, when Sines’ Arts School was created, in 2008, he began a relationship with the local community of musicians. In this concert, that relationship reaches its apex as David Murry invites a string orchestra formed within the school – Sinfonieta de Sines – to join him and a group of elite Cuban musicians in a project that reinvents one of the most significant parts of Nat King Cole’s repertoire: the songs in Spanish. Transforming immortal songs like “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas”, “Tres Palabras” and “Piel Canela”, Murray shows once more how chameleonic his saxophone can be.  An encounter not to miss inspired by of the sweetest giant of American popular music. Argentinean Daniel Melingo, one of the most charismatic voices in today’s tango, is David Murray’s guest in three songs of the show.
