The Mekons (UK / USA)
In the vanguard of post-punk and, in a second life, the founders of the alt-country movement, The Mekons are a band of revolutions and extraordinary live acts.

Among the few bands that led musical revolutions there is one that can boast to have accomplished it twice. In 1977 Leeds, side by side with Gang of Four, The Mekons were one of the most consistent groups transitioning from punk to most complex and nuanced territories. In 1985, their album “Fear and Whiskey” shows them playing with English folk roots and American country, beginning what would eventually be called alt-country, a movement that, from the Nineties on, has revealed some of the best musicians in the alternative scene. Present in both incarnations, the guitarists, singers and composers Jon Langford and Tom Greenhalgh guaranteed a core of creative integrity within the metamorphosis. Sally Timms (vocals), Susie Honeyman (violin), Sarah Corina (bass), Eric Bellis (accordion), Lu Edmonds (saz, cumbush) and Steve Goulding (drums, percussion) join them in today’s line-up. Hailed as one the best live bands in the world, when they go on Sines’ stage they are expected to perform some songs of their 27th album, scheduled to be released this year.
