Lisbon as a great African city in Europe is living a creative golden age. Blacks and whites come together more and more frequently and intensely to make new music and recover music forgotten by the passing of time. Batida was a radio program created in 2007, by Fazuma, on Antena 3 (the Portuguese public broadcaster channel for the young generation). It was there that the listeners could access the best African and afro-inspired sounds, from kwaito to kuduro, from pretoria to Brazilian funk, from dancehall to afro-house. In 2009, Dj Mpula (Pedro Coquenão) got the password to an Ali Baba’s Cave: the historical archive of sounds recorded in Luanda by Valentim de Carvalho (record label) during the 1960s and 1970s. The time spent among these treasures was productive, resulting in “Dance Mwangolé”, an album that sweeps the dust off the most brilliant pages of Angolan music catalogues of the last 50 years. All this is transferred to stage by a Portuguese and Angolan group led by Dj Mpula, in a show by the beach that closes FMM Sines 2010 in partying mode.
