Cheick Tidiane Check feat. Mamani KeitaCheick Tidiane Seck is the African wizard of the Hammond, besides a great guitarist, singer, composer and arranger. With a career that goes back to the Bamako of the 1960s, where he played along Salif Keita and Mory Kanté in the mythical Rail Band, Seck unites the Mandingo traditions with several branches of the African-American music, from jazz to soul and hip-hop. After years of conceding the front of the stage to the high-profile musicians he has worked with, Cheick had in “Sarala”, the album he recorded with legendary pianist Hank Jones in 1995, his first, and truly deserved, moment of stardom. The following two records, “MandinGroove” (2003) and “Sabaly” (2008) confirmed the pioneering nature of his efforts and granted him a spot in the crowded pantheon of Malian music. Younger, but following the same path, Mamani Keita, a singer interested in the electronic expansion of Mandingo tradition, has a stream of voice that turns into a torrential river when she goes on stage. Together, they make comfort music, overflowing with juices, precious to those who want to live the longest night of the festival to the fullest.
